SKATE. Design: Isle Of Grom Spillway

I was responsible for designing, creating proxy assets, and final blockout for the large, drop-in spillway section in the Isle of Grom for Skate.

The challenge in designing this space was connecting the lower spillway halfpipe section and the upper water-treatment spillway sections. It's a significant amount of space on the Isle, and as such each moment has to feel meaningful to players. My intent for designing the space was to connect the ideas from Skate 3's spillway/Dam map to the new Skate. without overshadowing the mega-ramp present in the Isle of Grom that players experience in the tutorial for the game.

The "Blow hole" or pipe that players can launch out of at the bottom of the spillway bowl was the brainchild of Andrew Barker in a feedback section, and the complementing design of the bowl section was guided by CJ Ferguson. All design work was overseen by Kevin Okada, our lead, and Elliott Walton, our Design Director.

Skate. is a labor of love and as such there are countless other individuals who work on each release and this map is no different.
