SKATE. Design: Museum Of Natural History Rooftop

I was responsible for creating the design blockout for the Museum Of Natural History rooftop in San Vansterdam in SKATE Season 2. The intent for this spot was creating a low-key set of grounded skate spots that act functionally for patrons of the museum, as well as flow for skaters looking for a new trick line. Each rooftop has a trapezoidal shape, which made the placement of assets challenging. I decided upon kitbashing existing kit geometry from the lower areas of the museum including planter boxes, benches, banks, dinosaur statue silhouette/motif, and a myriad of other architectural objects. The resulting spot serves as a parkour pursuit reward for players who want a realistic spot. The rooftops share similar design ideas, but contain some unique moments that allow for player creativity using the quick drop item system.

The spot had a collaborative design moment with the artist for the spot, Xavier Flibotte who suggested we open up the fence in the far corner of the dinosaur rooftop to allow players to gap down into a famous egg statue below for a massive trick. It was a successful moment for us both to see the rooftop land in player hands.
